After numbing the area, the clinician accesses, cleans and seals the canals inside the tooth. A filling or crown restores the tooth afterward. A dentist may refer complex cases to an endodontist.
Restoration matters
A completed root canal and a restored tooth are separate steps. Ask whether the estimate includes the permanent filling or crown. Until the restoration is finished, follow instructions about chewing on the tooth.
Recovery and reassessment
Tenderness can occur after treatment. Contact the practice if pain increases, swelling develops or your bite feels wrong. Persistent infection, a fracture or complicated anatomy can mean further treatment is needed.
